The first character of the butterfly effect-random trip

Je suis encore sur la route de Suao a Hualian a 21h. Il apparait si sombre ici alors que sur l'ecran de mon Powershot SD 750, ca va... Une retouche s'impose, en route. 08/17/'09

Sometimes feeling helpless it's just better to go and see

just how things turn out to be in reality and stop relying on the news and medias surronding us with an overload of information. The first set of pictures is taking me back to Taidong within two days, two evenings, one afternoon and one very morning, passing through Yilan, Hualian and then directly to that town that was undirectly hit because neither the typhoon landed there nor the heaviest rains happened to take place there, but still its vicinity and people suffered severe damages and lost habitations plus a few lives. As for the everyday life even larger influence occured for the whole district as the railway line got separated from its closest southern link with Pingdong and Gaoxiung, the biggest living areas of the south. The road and the intercity connection was about to restart after mending a few junctions but it was not the case yet at the time of my arrival. I was then ready to stay there for a few days knowing or having known a few persons if not friends directly in Taidong city. The sets of pict start with the line of Mass Rapid Transit Railways from Danshui to Xindian to land directly on the Suao-Hualian highway ( totally left without damages at its medium limit, Nan Ao "South Bay"), one of the most scenic area of the whole island if not enjoyed during reconstruction period with other preoccupations in mind. The fact that struck me was that the creeks were already dry in that part after ten days of such a disastrous typhoon sweeping the south, just to remind that Taiwan as different areas which even if closely related can be very different in climate and geography. This is also a particularity of any typhoon hits if not this one especially.

I came back home early on that sunday morning

after one night of intense discussion with my eldest friend on the island about the typhoon Morakot disaster and its consequences in the whole of Taiwan and not only localized in a small area of the southern faraway regions as many thought it would be. I was ready to depart for the east coast first which is the part I know the best amongst the less populated zones that start very soon after leaving the main hubs around Taipei, Danshui, Jilong, etc. It would be same road where I usually get off from a bus taken in the center of the northern capital city that would be my first destination... Jing Gua Shi. I met two japanese sisters on the way. But at this point of the shootings and recordings I m not there yet, I have to go back from Xindian to Danshui, spend a night there and teach a last lesson on the internet with my best student and exchange-friend about various topics concerning Taiwan and France. She is a dermatologist in the small town of Danshui. The class starts at ten and finishes at eleven, but sometimes more closely to twelve noon.
